unless Joanna Newsom surprises us with a new album in the next couple of months, here's the album of the year.

Super solid album (the second half in particular has been on repeat since I first heard it). Karly Hartzman's got a gift for detailing a grungy southern existence full of drugs, sex, and "piss colored bright yellow fanta"-- what more could you want?

This one follows two leads Tomona, a blind musician, and Inu-oh, a cursed boy who wants to be a Noh dancer. The story's a little confusing at times and the second half leans too hard into the boys' performances as what are essentially 14th century rockstars, but like all Masaaki Yuasa's projects, Inu-oh is stunningly animated and a real visual treat. Definitely worth a watch even if it's not his best. This one follows two leads Tomona, a blind musician, and Inu-oh, a cursed boy who wants to be a Noh dancer. One of the few sequels that manages to outshine its predecessor. Leans more into humor and away from the (light) horror of the first one.
Great action flick and all around good time.

Nothing's gonna match the highs of "Is Is" or the YYY's first couple of albums, but I was pleasantly surprised by "Cool It Down." The ferocity and rough edges of "Fever To Tell" are long gone, but they're replaced by added complexity in production and instrumentation. And best of all, Karen O still has one of the best voices around.Nothing's gonna match the highs of "Is Is" or the YYY's first couple of albums, but I was pleasantly surprised by "Cool It Down." Been diving into the Beach Boys catalog lately, and so far nothing tops Pet Sounds.
I guess that's no surprise, seeing that it's considered one of the best albums ever.

Originally released in 1975 as a Brazilian double concept album based on the four elements fogo, agua, ar, and terra, Paêbirú (apparently an Incan word meaning "Way of the Mountain Sun" per the internet) is a psychedelic folk, rock, experimental gem of an album. You can hear the Tropicalia influences throughout. I think every one of KV's albums has a gem or two and this is no exception. "Flyin (Like a Fast Train)" is just a perfect encapsulation of my favorite Kurt Vile stuff--laid back "rock" with a touch of humor.

if the world were a fairer place, Lee Moses would have been a star. He played with big names like Gladys Knight and Jimmy Hendrix and was a hell of a guitarist and just as talented a singer! Time and Place was his attempt to make it big; sadly, it proved a commercial flop. Nowadays though, it's recognized as an early seventies soul treasure. Elden Ring was my first real FromSoftware experience and I really enjoyed it so I decided to give Sekiro a try afterwards. I really liked it. It's got a fairly straightforward story, killer setting, great soundtrack, and super enjoyable gameplay (stealth mechanics, demanding combat, AND a satisfying grappling hook), but MAN could some of the boss fights get frustrating. Definitely got to places where it felt like I was hitting my head against a wall, especially some of the bosses. Hands down one of the hardest boss fights I've played-- took me like a week to take the guy down and it felt GREAT to when I finally did. First time Aldous Harding listener. Really enjoying this album. Definitely hear some indie aughts influences like Joanna Newsom, Isobel Campbell, New Buffalo, Beirut, and Vashti Bunyan (not from the 2000s but that's when she made a big splash) among others. That said she also sounds like her own great new thing.First time Aldous Harding listener. Really enjoying this album. I grew up with Fleetwood Mac's greatest hits in my parents CD collection and later learned to love both their self-titled 1975 album and "Rumours" but never really dug deeper than that. Recently checked out "Tusk" for the first time and love it! Songs like "Ledge," Storms," and "Beautiful Child" all instantly skyrocketed to some of my favorite FM songs.
