So much of this is "inappropriate" and yet that's why it's gold.

I was drawn in by the cutesy cover art but I could not finish. The Motherless Bear almost made me cry then I closed the book at The Parenting Storks. I’m a fan of David Sedaris but this title was just a little too dysfunctional to be…

Funny allegorical tales. A book that makes you ponder is a good book.

This was a dark set of fables, and it was a quick read. I didn’t really care too much for it.

Interesting to listen to but not as funny as I expected. Maybe my expectations were too high because of all the rave reviews he gets

Awful book, the Diabetes/Owls is great, but this one is hard to listen to... especially if you love animals. I gave up on about disc 2

YOU'LL WANT TO LISTEN TO IT. SEDARIS BRINGS IT TO LIFE.

This is a very strange book...I wasn't expecting it at all, having read many of his other works. Interesting and worth reading, definitely, but if you're just starting with Sedaris, I wouldn't start here.

A collection of grusome stories about human nature using animal parables... Sedaris must have just broken off his relationship with his partner (Hugh?)... I liked his earliers works much much better... Did not enjoy this book at all...

An interesting book. This was the first book I read from this author. I liked that it was short stories. It made it easy and quick to read. Some of the stories left me feeling a little confused and unsatisfied. Overall though I liked the…

I'm normally a fan of David Sedaris books but this one not so much. It was a serious of odd short stories about animals. I kept reading hoping the next story would be better but as soon as I found something else to read I returned this…

'Read' this as an audiobook, will now try the paper version. DARK, agreed, but brilliantly original. Ditto to Kirbs comments below.

I found this book to be interesting and darkly humorous. Each of the short stories was well written, and the accompanying illustrations were absolutely fantastic. Some lines, however, were just gross. And The Vigilant Rabbit in particular…

This was not one of David Sedaris great works. A collection of fables, it is gruesome to say the least. Filled with anus, puke and blood jokes and imagery. There are moments of brilliance, like the dog with a wife story, as well as the…

I though as this author had written children's books that it would be an amusing collection of stories as told by animals. I didn't know that he had a very gruesome outlook on life and that the majority of his stories would be so very…

If you like your humour with a dark twist, try David Sedaris. http://cclblog.wordpress.com/2011/01/18/squirrel-seeks-chipmunk-the-anti-peter-rabbit/

If you love animals and are easily upset, don't touch this one with a ten-foot pole. I couldn't even finish it.

This is a dark book of parables. Each tale starts off innocently enough but soon progresses into a cringing view of humanity. Not ha-ha funny, but more the wicked side of humour. This is the first Sedaris I've read. I don't know if I…

David Sedaris is no James Thurber.

Cynical and pointless. A waste of paper.

I've been a fan of Sedaris for quite some time but this book seemed to miss the mark. I didn't find it in any way entertaining or interesting. Can't say that about others but certainly didn't enjoy this one.

Every time I hear him tell a story, I enjoy it immensely. I often come away from a telling and feel the urge to rush out and get another of his books. And, yet, every time I read one of his books I come away feeling like it just missed…

Very easy and fast to read. Content not appropriate for most people as it is disturbing, dark, and includes lots of macabre things going on. Mostly composed of short stories dealing with the lives of animals who in one way or another end…
