J. K. Rowling certainly writes an engrossing novel, but I did not expect so much child abuse and family dysfunction from the author of Harry Potter. Painful to read!!!! Kristi & Abby Tabby

Pagford, England. A community away from the hustle & bustle of London. Just another small town on the map to outsiders, but to the people of the town, it is home. But home is not as perfect as some may like to believe it to be. It…

unbelievably insightful, amazing well written. I was emotionally drained after reading this book and it stays with you long after you have finished reading it.

A story about the importance of a communal safety net and community coming together. Barry Fairbrother dies and out of this comes "a casual vacancy" on the Council seat. We're in for all the infighting, the causes & reasons of Council…

What a disappointment. I listened to the Audiobook and was disgusted with the gratuitous use of the "F" word. The storyline was depressing and, having grown up in UK, consider it rather overdone. Stick to children's books please.

I hated this book. I found it depressing, which can be fine with some books, but it just didn't let up with the grimness and was also boring in general. It had a few redeeming moments, but I wouldn't recommend this at all.

I don't recommend this book in the Playaway format if you plan on casually listening to the book. The chapters aren't broken down into a smaller number of tracks so one chapter is one track. Normally I don't find this to be an issue, but…

A great book! I read the audio version and only had to skip ahead once when I sensed a graphic scene coming. It was definitely dark, but based on the comments that I read I expected much moreso.

As was stated below just too many characters doing too many things. I found it hard to follow and eventually just gave up, which I normally dont do. A disappointment but I can see how some could enjoy it, just not me.

This is not an easy book to read, but it is well worth the effort! Once you have sorted out the many characters, it all starts to make sense. Although I didn't really like any of the characters in this book, I was reluctant to put it…

The best book I've read in a long, long time. Can't understand why it got bad reviews! Does our society got so shallow that it can't recognize a real literary gem?

I know this book was badly reviewed, and being a big Harry Potter fan, I really tried to read as if I had never read anything by the author. I had to fight comparisons all the way through. This is a very DARK book. I thought her…

Ok, tried to read the book. Knew it wasn't going to be like the Harry Potter series but wanted to give it a try. I couldn't get into the book. Then, ordered the audio version ... listened to the 1st CD ... couldn't go any further. …

To those of you who were expecting another version of Hogwarts, you are in for a big surprise! Ms Rowling still has a fascination for children but these are of a totally different genre from the Harry Potter clan! I would also suggest…

A tedious story of small town politics. I couldn't get past the second CD.

This book delves into real life and controversial issues and how people deal (or not) deal with them. The ending could not have been better. Can't wait to read her next creation!

I am not a huge Harry Potter fan, but I remember attending to the first pages of the first novel with awe and admiration. Unfortunately, I found the latter Potter books tiresome. However, I found this book virtually un-put-downable! I…
