Daughters is the complicated tale of mother Lara’s attempt to get through the drama and stress of her daughter Eve’s upcoming wedding. Why is it complicated? Because Lara isn’t technically Eve’s mother, but she’s been raising her since Eve was an infant after Eve’s biological mother Mary died during the birth. Eve’s older sister Jasmine was also only a toddler when Lara met their grieving widowed father Bill. Lara took the girls on as her own children and became the only Mum that they really had ever known. Flash forward a few years and a half-sister Maudie is born to parents Lara and Bill. Jealousy and insecurities arise in the older sisters when they realize Lara has a real daughter now. Does she love Maudie more? A heartbreaking still- birth to a fourth child, Louis, causes a breakdown in Lara and Bill’s marriage, and Bill chooses to walk out and leave all three girls with Lara. His new girlfriend at the time, Violet, doesn’t want children. Back then it was an easy choice for him. Now, its fifteen years later, and they must all come together for Eve’s wedding, including now Sarah, Bill’s girlfriend of ten years, with whom he has just inherited a new house, and does Eve want the wedding there? Anger, bitterness, jealousy, and many unresolved matters all come into play as all the parties try to come together for the sake of Eve’s wedding. Reviewed by DH
