Forced into early retirement by a spinal condition, Steven Wolf reluctantly left his family for Arizona's warm winter climate. A lifelong dog lover, the former hard-driving attorney is drawn to a group that rescues retired greyhounds. When Comet, a once-abused racer, chooses to "adopt" Wolf, a life-altering relationship begins. After Wolf shows the mistrustful dog how to thrive in the real world, the tables turn and Comet helps Wolf with the most basic skills.

Comet not only learned to tow a wheelchair, she taught us what not-trained-by-an-academy service dogs would like to do, such as stretch out across the doorway between the operating room and the waiting area and refuse to budge for 12 hours. She did not like the taste of the cell phone or how it rang, so she threw it at Wolf when he gave her a treat for retrieving it; after a couple of broken lamps and holes in the dry wall, she learned to fetch. She refused to allow Wolf to sleep late and refused to allow him to pass by someone else out for a walk -- but I'll let you read the rest of how she rescues Steve Wolf for yourself. She was a rescue, but that pales in comparison to what she did for her friend. An epic love story!

One of the most heartwarming stories of the love of a wonderful dog.
Dogs are such great soul mates and give so very much. This is an amazing story.

Well written bio-brief. Comet (a retired racing Greyhound) is, indeed, a savior. When I rescued Joey (Jet Missile, also a retired racer) and had him trained to alert me to low blood sugars, I was amazed at how much more he added to my life. When I read of Comet's picking up on Wolf's needs so quickly and intuitively, even I was mesmerized. And, yes, everyone should save a Greyhound. You'll learn that they are 45 mph couch potatoes, of course, and how much a saved animal can love being saved.

I was captivated by the dog. I thought the human was his own worst enemy! Sometimes the story dragged a little and felt repetitive, but it is totally worth it. Comet is a charmer and will make you want to own a greyhound.

A moving story about a gentle and faithful spirit with 4 legs and a tail.

I loved this book. Honest, moving, well-written. And it does make you want to adopt a greyhound!

An excellent book! A biography of a man who is crippled by back pain.
He rescues a greyhound dog from a shelter. It turns out that they rescue each other. Best book i've read in some time!
