If you like folk music - You can't go wrong with Peter, Paul, and Mary. This CD contains some of their most memorable songs of all time, including "Leaving On A Jet Plane" and "Puff, the Magic Dragon".
In the realm of the folk music scene during the 1960's, Peter, Paul & Mary, as a musical trio, were, without question, one of the most popular performing artists of their day.
Throughout that ever-changing decade in pop music history, Peter, Paul & Mary scored a string of #1 hits that placed them right on top of the record charts all across the nation, and beyond.
At the very height of their vast popularity, Peter, Paul & Mary ranked right up there with the likes of Bob Dylan, Joan Baez and Pete Seeger.
This "Best Of" CD contains 25 tracks in all which were chiefly recorded between the years of 1962-1972. Three of my favourites in this compilation are - Leaving On A Jet Plane, If I Had A Hammer and Puff, The Magic Dragon.
*Note* - In 2009, singer, Mary Travers died of cancer at the age of 73. The 2 remaining members of this musical trio (Peter Yarrow, and Paul Stookey) are now both in their late-70s.
The Very Best of Peter Paul and Mary gives a much broader selection of material the first "Best of" series. Instead of having only 10 songs, we now have 26 songs over their entire career. As a side note, Paul's song "The Wedding Song" is the most requested sheet music for weddings. Paul donates all the earnings from the song to an unnamed charity. It just one more reason the group sings what they believe. Of all the 60's folk groups, this might be the best and also the longest lasting group of them all!
brilliant trio. is just what you need to hear when one is feeling a tiny bit militant.
I think this is the very best version of "Blowin' In the Wind" and love The Wedding Song!
