I was so disappointed in this book. I kept reading because I love Janet Evanovitch. About the last quarter was interesting & held my interest.

An enjoyable book about an American heiress in her mid twenties who yet unmarried despite her mother's plans. The main character is spunky, and knows what she wants, though she seems all to willing to go along with her mother and father's wishes despite saying over and over how she wants freedom, and choice, and adventure. I listened to this while at the gym, and several times laughed out loud on the treadmill. The characters are a bit stereotypical of other historic romance, but there is enough humor to make it worth reading.

Note this book is in the 'series' with "love in a nutshell" but the two are not connected other than two characters with the same last name and an interest in beer and brewing.

I expected this one to be quite sappy, but I read all Janet Evanovich books regardless. I was pleasantly surprised. A period book set in the 1890's, well written and I liked Jack & Caroline very much!

Full of anachronisms and stilted writing, but often enjoyable nonetheless.

Love her Stephanie Plum books, but this was nowhere near as entertaining. I just didn't get interested in this book at all and will be avoiding the historical novels entirely. A waste of my time.

Funny historical romance with an "almost" Duke, a hero who loves beer, an outspoken heiress. It was a cute read.

What a disappointment! I couldn't even get past the second chapter. For a book set in 1894, it was remarkably short on historical detail / accuracy.

Quite possibly the worst thing Evanovich had ever put her name on. 200 hundred pages of boring, follwed by 50 pages of plot - all wrapped up in the last 2. Don't waste your time - she has written much better things.

“Her concept of paradise was something more immediate: a book and a blanket beneath a tree, where she might read in peace.”
