Definitely not your average Kafka story. It's an absurdest comedy of errors about a young man forcibly moving to America thanks to an embarrassing indiscretion back home in Prague. From arrival to the end the boy just meets misfortune after misfortune at hands of relations and supposed friends alike. As insane and unlikely as it appears I'm sure this is not an unfamiliar experience to some new arrivals to any foreign country and not just the US. I've never read the original source material so I can't comment to the similarities or differences to that but this was a good choice for a graphic adaptation. Even the sudden ending (the original novel is unfinished) fits in with the tone of the book. The choice for black and white in art, which I originally though odd considering the insanity going it, works in the light of everyone else seeming to think their actions and the environment makes perfect sense aside from the main character.
