In 1906, 20-year-old Moira, pregnant and unmarried, is sent off to Saskatchewan from Nova Scotia by parents hoping to avoid scandal and embarrassment. Eventually, she finds work as a housekeeper and nanny for Dillan and his young son, Casey. Like Moira, Dillan, a Newfoundlander, is also trying to forge a new life for himself as he becomes a landowner and wheat farmer. The set-up might sound predictable but is anything but. Moira, a strong, independent-minded woman defies the expectations of those around her to make her own life. An enjoyable read.
