A dramatic retelling of the life of Edith Piaf, considered one of the great performers of France. Raised in a brothel, taken to work in a circus by her father, and eventually abandoned by her parents, she spent her teen years on the streets. Eventually "rescued" by a crime figure who gives her career a start, she makes her way to international success, despite recurring frailty, illness, wild moods, drug and alcohol problems.

Add a CommentAbsolutely astounding, award winning (MANY awards!) performance from the lead actress who plays and sings Piaf!
Marion Cotillard has a wonderful performance. Watch the bonus features for insights from the director and Cotillard. This is a drama. The non linear story line adds intrigue.

Brilliant.
Formidable! Fantastic film!
Edith Piaf's wonderful voice and Marion Cotillard's great acting make for a fascinating film. I wish the movie had also touched on Piaf's relationships with German officers during WWII and her mentoring of Yves Montand.
a wonderful, sad film. she was amazing.
I don't see what all the fuss is about with this film- Edith Piaf was a talented singer and she had a hard life- how you manage to make a boring movie out of all this is beyond me.
This is a 2007 French and Canadian biographical film directed by Olivier Dahan.
It's about the life of French singer Édith Piaf.
The performance of Marion Cotillard as the heroine creates the almost lifelike and deeply emotional character of the legendary troubled singer.
It is a profoundly gripping and engaging docu-drama.
Edith Piaf sang from her soul. Her songs reflected her hard life throughout. Wonderful singer who is still remembered today. Numerous songs by Piaf are still used in movies. Marion Cotillard took on quite a task when she accepted this role. She did it beautifully.
