The definitive biography of Sally Ride, America's first woman in space, by the ABC reporter who covered NASA during its transformation from a test-pilot boys' club to a more inclusive elite. This is a rich portrait of a fascinating woman whose life intersected with revolutionary social and scientific changes in America. Warm and admiring but unsparing, it makes this extraordinarily talented and bold woman, an inspiration to millions, come alive.

Sally Ride broke down a lot of barriers for a lot of people. Who cares if she was lesbian?

"Sally Ride, the first American woman to go into space, competed successfully in the male-dominated profession of physics and became an inspiration to girls who dreamed of science careers. Journalist Lynn Sherr, drawing on materials provided by Ride's family and friends as well as official records and Sherr's own friendship with Ride, offers a moving and sensitive portrait of this pioneer who guarded her private life -- her long-term lesbian relationship only became known through her obituary. Publishers Weekly praises Sally Ride as a "window into one of the most fascinating figures of the 20th century." Excellent book. Easy to read. Interesting period in history. What an amazing woman. I relived the 70's and 80's. She made huge contributions even after her first flight helping to uncover what happened to the Challenger. She was an excellent educator and her website and books are still great for teachers.
