I would not recommend this book to children as it gives a false sense of what an elephant's life is like. Even more disappointing is the author is Asian, a culture that perpetuates the slaughter of thousands of elephants for the sake of tusks to be used as ornaments and a sign of prestige. Elephants are familial and survive within a herd, not in a circus where they are notorious for treating elephants worse of all animals.

My 3-year-old daughter loves the illustrations in this book and the story of Ellie discovering her own special way to contribute to her world. We kept this one at home for another 3 weeks at my daughter's request.
