My husband and I loved this DVD. Based on the book "The Other Anzacs", this television series is about the extraordinary compassion and courage shown by a group of Australian nurses during WW I. From the real letters and diaries of the 5 main ANZAC nurses, it tells the story of their hardships, losses and love on the battle fields. I recommend watching the Bonus Features.

I cannot say enough good things about this wonderful series. The characters are believable, the sets and costumes authentic-looking, and the pervasive "we'll get through this" attitude heartbreaking. Watch it!

Very touching movie based 5 dedicated nurses and their courageous work in time of the first war. Well done with the accuracy of the costumes for the time of war-1914-1918, the wounded scenes , drama, bombing etc..... Based on true story. I like the fact they show the real pictures of the 5 nurses involved, the writing from Harry, Diary notes and special features. It makes it very personal.

Totally agree with previous comments. Very well done WW One drama. Refreshing/inspiring to see women get the credit they are due. If you like Call the Midwife, you will love this!

Loved this - very well produced & riveting stories woven together. This was based on actual diaries & recollections of the nurses who served at Gallipoli. The role of military nurses has not received nearly the attention deserved. I believe all nursing students & new nurses in practice should watch this series. Powerful in its presentation.

My husband and I both found this extremely well-done.
The fact that it was based on real characters and their diaries gave it greater depth, and caused me greater appreciation for the many who served in various capacities through war times.
Well worth watching.

I found this to be unexpectedly touching. The stories are all true, based on the letters and diaries of the women portrayed. Their real names are used and several have Wikipedia pages. What lives they led--I would like to know even more about them.

Rated 8/10. Overall, a pretty good set of episodes. The acting and plot was good. I did find that showing the wounded was more graphic than it really needed to be. Suggesting that war is hell would have got the job done, too. It doesn't need to be in your face.

I couldn't stop watching this series once I had started. I finished it in two sittings. I loved that the characters were based on real people. I didn't know much about the Australia and New Zealand involvement in WW1 except for the Gallipoli campaign so it was nice to learn more about their involvement. Even though the battle wounds were quite gruesome, I appreciated seeing what it might have been like, instead of it being glossed over like some movies and shows do. I highly recommend this mini-series!

Incredibly well-done, it puts "The Crimson Fields" to shame. The gruesome parts are handled sensitively and flash by quickly, and are balanced by some lovely interludes away from battle.
