Look into a celebrity designer's inspiration book... Kathryn M. Ireland shows journeys she has taken and the places and people that inspire her creativity, from rural England to Southwest France, from the East Coast U.S. to the West Coast. Mixing textiles and fabrics with furnishings gathered on trips to Morocco, France, London and other international destinations, Kathryn creates sophisticated but welcoming room designs in the States and abroad, from city apartments to ranch homes and French farm houses. Kathryn M. Ireland is a celebrity designer and cast member of Bravo TV's Million Dollar Decorator. Named by Elle Decor in 2012 as one of the top 25 design stars in the U.S., Kathryn enjoys an international reputation for her expertise in the "sympathetic restoration" of older properties with important architectural origins. A well-established fabric designer, Kathryn has designed a collection for the venerable fabric house Scalamandre.

Acclaimed interior designer Kathryn Ireland has just released her fifth book, a unique guide in that, instead of featuring rooms she herself designed, she showcases homes decorated by friends and colleagues. She claims to love each house in the book, asserting, "I could happily live in each and every one of them.” Readers will quickly relate to this sentiment.

The book includes enough homes and rooms to suit everyone’s style: a grand estate in London that combines comfort and grandeur, mixing children's art with the Old Masters; and a ravishing, colourful home in Virginia featuring an antiques-filled library to name two. Of course, not everyone can afford to live in such opulence so Ireland also offers practical advice for the budget-conscious. Think throws and new pillow covers, she advises. Switch up lampshades and move around artwork. Fresh flowers and tidying up can work wonders.

As for staples, Ireland recommends Lloyd Loom wicker chairs and an AGA stove. A well-made sofa can last forever as you can recover it or add slip covers. Ultimately, despite the domestic perfection Ireland seems to convey, she maintains that houses are meant to be lived in and shared with family and friends. Her beautiful book both inspires creative redecoration and reminds us not to eschew red wine in the name of a white sofa.
