A Dan Connor Mystery

Dan Connor is a former policeman attempting to heal after his career went awry. He finds himself pulled back into the job when a local woman goes missing. Her story is part of a larger weave, because the responsible party is involved in a scheme to conceal a half-million dollars in stolen jewelry. In their ineptitude, the thieves disfigure a totem pole that the locals have endowed with spiritual powers, and that’s a crime nearly on a par with kidnapping.

Walker is back! Yes!!! This is the second Dan Connor mystery, and it is as good, or better, than the first Dan Connor mystery "Dark Moon Walking". I hope the author, R.J. McMillen writes many more books in this series. I'm reading "Black Tide Rising" again now that I know what happens to everybody, and it's even better the second time! As all readers know, looking up words the author sets down that you don't know (or aren't sure of) enriches the reading experience. It was fun to learn what a "Thayer's" gull, salal, campanula and wild lupines looked like. This talented author enables the reader to experience the West Coast life (flora and fauna) and what it feels like to be on the ocean and living by the ocean and to walk in the forest and on rocky beaches. Highly recommend this book for its believable and interesting characters, dialogue, and ability to bring to life a beautiful area of Canada. The good guys have real Canadian qualities, and the bad guys are pretty scary. Nothing is predictable. I'll wait patiently for the 3rd book, and while I'm waiting, maybe I'll reread the 1st book.
