The narrator does a tremendous job in this audiobook version. I loved the characters and the interplay between them over the years. It is an honest look at family and social dynamics. The descriptions of the flora and fauna of the area were very easy to imagine in the mind's eye. A great read/listen!

Unfortunately, the library is lending CD that are in such bad condition that it would not work. I have heard good things about this book though. Time for a new set of disks? Please.

A moving story that had me tearing up at the end (even though I could see it coming just from the synopsis). Well read by Tom Stechschulte, who reads slowly and clearly and has a talent for changing voices.

A story that lends itself well to audio listening. The narrator is wonderful.
A marvelous story of love, regrets, learning to understand a person, finding Self and one's place in history. The characters of the old man, Franklin and his father are very well portrayed.
This is a melancholy story, poignantly told, with feeling and respect. I loved "the kid" (Franklin) and was glad that he had the old man in his life. God bless that old man.
