The City's Most Baffling Unsolved Murders

There are literally hundreds of murders that remain unsolved in Vancouver, some dating back decades; their victims are now essentially invisible, forgotten by everyone except family and friends. Sometimes their cases are reopened, looked at again with a fresh set of eyes and the benefit of new technologies; sometimes they are even solved. Most often, however, the crimes remain a mystery, consigned to the city's dark history. Part history book, part crime story, this book delves into 50 years of some of Vancouver's most baffling unsolved murders.

"Cold Case Vancouver" is not the riveting read I'd hoped for; as the author points out in the introduction, there is something unsatisfying about a book of unsolved crimes, as there is no payoff at the end for the reader.

With the exception of the 'Babes in the Woods' case, none of the deaths have a real sense of mystery about them; they are mostly of the 'wrong place at the wrong time' variety, and not especially interesting.

After a while, the cases all seem to blend into the others --and while they're all sad, they're only mildly interesting.
