This album isn't the first one that Kraftwerk made, but it is agreed by many fans to be the first one released that really established the band, and gained them international acclaim. Remember the context under which this music was produced. This was electronic music, produced in 1974, when there were only a handful of bands making music like this. It was in many respects very original of Kraftwerk to make music like this. Some of their instruments were homemade, and they had inspirations to try to make everything in their music electronic.
Out of the major Kraftwerk albums, I would say that this album is the most optimistic and uplifting. Radioactivity and Trans-Europe Express are certainly very good albums, and maybe even a little better than this one, but this is definitely their happiest album.
