In different parts of London, three recruits prepare for their first day at the Metropolitan Police's training centre at Hendon. Oxford graduate Jamie Fullerton, streetwise West Indian 'Bunny' Warren and blonde, beautiful Tina Leigh are looking forward to a new start in life. All three have secrets in their past which they are keen to put behind them.
But Assistant Commissioner Peter Latham has other plans for the three new recruits. They are to join a team of undercover detectives, a secret unit involved in the long-term penetration of criminal gangs.
Their target? One of the world's biggest drug dealers: Den Donovan - alias 'Tango One'. A man so rich and powerful that he's virtually untouchable, despite being targeted by UK Customs investigators, the Drug Enforcement Adminstration and Europol.
To close in on their quarry, Jamie, Bunny and Tina must go back into the outside world and become criminals themselves. They know their task will be difficult and dangerous. What they don't know is that someone is pursuing an alternative agenda. Someone who has deliberately put their lives on the line.
