Former Canadian ambassador to Iran Ken Taylor, who facilitated the 1980 escape of six US Embassy workers during the Iran hostage crisis, takes us inside the true story behind the Academy Award-winning Argo in this fascinating, in-depth documentary portrait. While Ben Affleck's Academy Award-winning Argo rekindled public interest in and awareness of Canada's pivotal role in the rescue of six US embassy staffers during the 1979 Iran hostage crisis, the film was entertainment first and foremost - "based on a true story," but not the whole story.

Directed by Drew Taylor and Larry Weinstein in 2014, this 85-minute Canadian documentary delves into the events of the 1979–1981 Iran hostage crisis and the history preceding the crisis.
The film features the role of Kenneth D. Taylor, Canada's ambassador to Iran in the 1970s, in helping six American diplomats escape from Iran during the crisis.
Several other political, journalism and diplomatic personalities involved in the events also appear in the film, including Joe Clark, Flora MacDonald, Robert Anders, William Daugherty, Carole Jerome, Tony Mendez, Joe Schlesinger, Zena Sheardown and Gary Sick.
As a counterpart to the docudrama "ARGO", this film shows the tension-filled events as well as rich details to the events from the people who experienced the escape and the crisis.

Who better to learn about the Argo Plan than from the Canadians? In true Canadian fashion we learn the larger political picture at work. It was a great moment when one of the former hostages declared how difficult it was to learn to be Canadian. Another great fact revealed was the error the CIA made for the visa to enter Iran on; an error detected by us and which could have foiled the entire Plan. Now all we need is a documentary from the Iranian perspective.

this was great....so glad that I watched Argo first, as I would have been disappointed after watching the real story! As it was, I was on the edge of my seat watching "Argo" and then I loved seeing the real story afterwards!

This is an interesting true account of the rescue, in 1980, of Americans from the American Embassy in Iran, by the Canadian Ambassador and his staff, when the American Embassy was overrun by Iranian students.
Not to be confused with the American made movie "Argo" which is more fiction than fact.

An interesting documentary of the events that lead to the Iran hostage situation at the US embassy. This is the true story that Hollywood used to make the movie Argo.
