Relive the music, fashion, and spirit of the 1980s via the story of New Wave legends Spandau Ballet, who rose from the streets of working class London to global success and superstardom. The film is not only a fascinating, often hard-hitting social and cultural document of the time, but a brutally honest story of how friendships can be won, lost and ultimately regained.

I really enjoyed this celebrity-documentary that took a close-up look at the rise and fall of the British, new wave, pop sensations, Spandau Ballet during the 1980s.

This first-rate presentation contained some really great archival footage, looking back at the music/youth scene in London during the height of the New Wave music craze.

This documentary also reveals a very bitter and intense drama of total betrayal that happened between the members of Spandau Ballet and what eventually took place in its aftermath.

I certainly recommend "Soul Boys" to anyone who is interested in seeing yet another fascinating chapter in the history of pop music.

Without a doubt - When speaking about the British music scene of the 1980's - ("blue-eyed soul" rockers) Spandau Ballet (amongst several other notable bands) were the ones who, most definitely, helped shape and define that unique era in pop music history.

Impressively directed by George Hencken - "Soul Boys Of The Western World" tells the intriguing and eye-opening story of the meteoric rise, the double-crossing fall, and the eventual (but at first reluctant) reunion of Spandau Ballet.

Through interviews, stills, and an absolutely amazing collection of vintage film clips (chronicling London's youth culture movement, circa 1975-1985) - This exceptional documentary is a first-rate production that I highly recommend to all who are interested in pop music of yesteryear.

This is one of the best presentations of its kind that I've seen in a mighty long time. I hope that you will agree.

I recommend this film for fans of music documentaries and especially those with an interest in '80s music. Before watching it, the only thing I knew about Spandau Ballet was "True," their one big U.S. hit. The band had additional hits at home in the U.K. I thought the documentary started off a bit choppy and took longer to get to their success than it should have, but ultimately I enjoyed learning a lot more about the band, its evolution and implosion. Shortening up the description of the band members' and the band's very early years could have made it a more satisfying 90 minutes rather than 111 minutes in length.

Remember Spandau Ballet? I couldn't name a tune, but when I heard True and Gold - I recognized those songs. They were part of the new romantic music coming out of London (very pretty boys) who were keen on their music, their looks and images. Their competitors at the time were Duran Duran and Culture Club. This DVD interviews the band members and they talk about growing up in London suburbs during the 1960s. They were all working class lads and they speak of their musical influences - Rod Stewart, Stevie Wonder. Talk about their their evolution from local band to international pop stars. They were very successful, but as usual had internal differences. One band member wrote all the songs and near the end of their music career, he sued the other band members for exclusive rights to the royalty revenues and won. Caused a great divide and the band fell apart. Sad to see good friends becoming bitter enemies. Interesting to see the music scene of the 1980s / 1990s. They participated in LiveAid and the big Christmas charity song. Shows the drain/strain of super success and the fall out of lifelong friendships that it cost.
