This is a great little story about a girl whose hardscrabble life on the farm won't allow a pet dog, so she makes do by pretending her favorite chicken is a dog. If you're not scared away by the thought of chickens in the house, cousins named Tater, or saying "bawk bawk bawk" many times, then this will be a fun one to read to your kids.

So funny! Perfect for storytime and storytelling with plenty of repetition and lots of antics. Turns out that a chicken makes a pretty good dog! Plus, with character names like Lula Mae and Cousin Tater, it has a decidedly Southern attitude and begs to be read in your best country accent.
