Remember those young women from Ohio who were kidnapped and held for years by a guy who would be the last person anyone suspect as the culprit?

This is a fictional tale along the same lines. A young 13 year old girl is taken by a neighbourhood small business man. It takes place when the man falls, hurts himself and is missed at work. Charlotte, who is very very afraid to make any noise, lest the man be behind the door waiting to trick her and beat her up (as he has done in the past). But she's brave and makes terrific noises that leads the paramedics to discover her and rescue her.

Charlotte discovers that the ideal family she had dreamed of all the time she was imprisoned isn't the family she discovers when she gets home. Aftermath is all about Charlotte and the lives of her family when she disappeared, and when she is finally rescued.

You will cheer, you will cry, and you will get very angry.
