It is 1962, and WPC Bobbie Blandford is in her third year at Stony End station. Her relationship with boyfriend Dr Leo Stanhope is decidedly rocky, and she faces a continuing struggle to earn the same respect that is paid to her male colleagues. When a violent bank robbery shocks the entire village, Bobbie's talented - but seemingly troubled - brother Tom arrives from Scotland Yard, placing her on the sidelines of the investigation.
