Detective Harriet Blue of the Sydney Police Department prides herself on an uncanny ability to catch the most deviant of criminals. So when her brother is charged with a brutal string of murders, it rocks her world. Shocked, in denial, and facing uncomfortable questions about how much she knew, Harry is transferred to avoid the media circus. Investigating the disappearance of a worker in an isolated mine deep inside the desolate Australian outback--the never never--she uncovers an insular society that has sprung up around the mine. It's a world full of easy money, plenty of immoral ways to spend it, and no shortage of suspects. Still reeling from her investigative failures back home, Harry must get to the bottom of the mine's mysteries before she vanishes into the wilds of the never never for good.

A very quick read, definitely a page turner, but I was quite unsatisfied with the ending. Patterson has a knack for suspense, that's for sure. I think I prefer the character of Harriet's partner, Whitt, over Harriet Blue (unusual since I love books with heroines), and of course I simply have to find out what happens to her brother Sam... I'm guessing questions that remain (more raised than answered in this debut of the series) will be addressed in subsequent books so I'll have to keep reading. Another thing Patterson is good at...

Interesting story. It takes place in Australia. An intriguing plot - two other story lines are also introduced. Looking forward to the next one.

I read it and it took along time (usually get thru a JP book in a couple of days) and for the life of me cannot recall much about it except did not care for the lead character much. Disappointment big time

This book does not move quickly, too much background clutter and don't get me started on the non-ending. WTF....

Another garbage book from the Patterson mill. Did he even read this thing which is so full of holes and with such an obvious plot that I figured it out less than a third of the way through?

This book was a disappointment. Patterson is churning out too many books in a short time. This book dragged on too long. Would not recommend it.

Enjoyed the new character! Book was light and fun - looking forward to it becoming a series... left me wanting more

The ending left this reader wondering what happened to the character on trial. There was no real ending.

What a poor excuse for a book. This was horrible not like his others. If he teams with this person again, I wont bother reading it. Waste of time.

I enjoyed this book and the shorter chapters helped with the flow of the book and storyline. This book was entertaining to read, however, the ending felt incomplete. After reading the last page, I was looking for the rest of the story. That was the part that was disappointing since it made the book feel incomplete and the story unfinished.
