Yet another entrancing collection of haunted and beguiling music from Marissa Nadler. This is as good a starting point for Nadler newcomers as anything she's done. Think hushed melodies cut with a spooky David Lynchian vibe that frankly can be overwhelming at times, although Nadler is a smart enough artist to never wallow in the darkness. Her best songs ("Katie I Know", "Janie in Love") offer more dark pop than shadowy folk. I happen to love and appreciate her dedication to fully realizing this kind of music. One of 2016's best albums.
