This audiobook made my morning commute a treat. I enjoyed listening to the multiple African dialects and humorous stories about the comedian being raised by a *very* religious, single-mother. Though the order and transitions of this book could've used some work, in my opinion, I really enjoyed learning about Trevor Noah and hearing about his South African childhood.

Comedian/Talk show host Trevor Noah provides an engaging, entertaining reflection on his childhood during post-Apartheid South Africa. I recommend this audiobook often and have yet to meet a person who didn't enjoy it.

Definitely recommend this book and specifically the audio version - not only is Trevor Noah's voice pleasant but I think it gives extra power to the words when spoken by the author. It was interesting, entertaining, and thought-provoking weaving through it ideas like family, culture, and love.

Trevor Noah's memoir of his childhood in South Africa is eye opening and engaging, full of heart and humor. The Daily Show host fills his memoir with his typical brand of comedy both personal and political, vividly illustrating post-Aprtheid South Africa through the lens of his own experiences growing up as an outsider. Having listened to Noah's superb audiobook narration, I can't imagine experiencing his story any other way. Highly recommended.

Trevor Noah is a very funny storyteller ... of his own story and what shaped him. Hearing it in his voice and accent really made it. Funny & REAL.

Trevor Noah's recollections of his South African childhood and early manhood tell us a lot about the nature of apartheid. It is worth noting that Trevor, like his mom, though recognizing injustice and the silly inconsistencies of the system of apartheid, does not allow it to keep him down. Mr. Noah, current host of "The Daily Show" and a stand-up comic, tells his stories with a great deal of humor. This is one book, I would argue, best encountered in audio form. Mr. Noah does his own narration, and he brings his sense of timing and of speaking as different characters to the task with great effect.

What a great book! So glad that Trevor Noah decided to put this memoir together. Some true, laugh-out-loud moments, and some truly sad moments - riveting tales about a life lived, and surviving/thriving through apartheid, domestic violence, street-smart hustle, and the joy and gratitude for the love and faith of his mother.

I highly recommend reading the audio version of this, narrated by the author. It's fantastic.
Well done, Trevor! You've made your mother proud, and you yourself should be proud of what you've made of your life. Congratulations on beating the "black tax," and may success continue to be your constant companion.
Looking forward to more stories about your interesting life.

This audiobook is... a must. It is read by the author/entertainer, Trevor Noah, himself and it is brilliantly executed. You laugh because his delivery of events is so amusing, but cry because the reality of the content is overwhelmingly brutal. There's no question... a must.

But the real world doesn't go away. Racism exists. People are getting hurt. And just because it's not happening to you, doesn't mean it's not happening. And at some point you have to choose; black or white, pick a side. You can try to hide from it. You can say, oh I don't take sides, but at some point, life will force you to pick a side.

People love to say, “Give a man a fish, and he’ll eat for a day. Teach a man to fish, and he’ll eat for a lifetime.” What they don’t say is, “And it would be nice if you gave him a fishing rod.” That’s the part of the analogy that’s missing.
