I haven't read either Station Eleven or Never Let Me Go, but this book reminded me quite a bit of Cloud Atlas, although it was an easier book to read. With the 3 different timelines going on I don't feel that there was enough character development, particularly with some of the minor characters. In some cases there was little to no insight as to why the characters made their sudden choices. Overall it is a decent book and insightful as to what may occur in the future if bees do not survive.

This book seemed on a downward slope as it began and it made me feel a little depressed as I proceeded. The Author is very clever in her storytelling intertwining 3 different families during 3 different periods over 3 separate countries. She touches on many subtleties of human behavior, family ties and weaves these through her story telling w/ great skill. By the end she has more than won me over. People have many lessons to be learned. We may think we are leaping ahead but how often are our actions are selfish , greedy and destructive....

Three stores in three separate time periods help frame this novel, a skillfully and beautifully written book about, well, bees, but more importantly the personalities of the people who see them as their job, a link to their family, or their salvation. This is a PERFECT book club book, too.
