As other reviewers have commented, this is definitely NOT a comedy. In fact there was nothing funny about it. One of those movies where you reach the end and wonder: What happened? Did I miss something? That can't be the end? Totally unsatisfying.

A horribly cynical film that is NOT a comedy. I really, really wish I had never seen it.

Totally misnamed as a comedy. I don't want to give away anything, but just be prepared for it not to be the comedy it was advertised to be. Very intense at times, not meant to be uplifting. But unlike some of the criticisms I've seen, just because you don't like where a movie goes, doesn't mean it is "bad". It did give me food for thought (like, "why?") and made me think of the various clues that were laid out from the very beginning. Did I like how it ended? Did I think there were other choices? Regardless of how I answer these questions, the movie was good and thought-provoking.

The ending of this film totally sucked and ruined the entire viewing experience.

Good filming and good actors performing a very lightweight screenplay. Don't know if this was drawn from a novel but I don't think I would want to read it.

What's up with the ending. If you can't stand cruel dumb soulless idiots who put you in despair you should step out of the race and let them win? Disappointing scenario.

I couldn't get past the irony of Selma Hayek, who comes from a pampered background & is married Francois-Henri Pinault (Chairman of Luxury Brand Co.- Kering S.A.) was chosen to play this roll - how disingenuous!!

This is NOT a comedy. This is a drama with a surprise ending. That said, it's a poignant reflection on our modern society and the things we value (and don't value), how we treat people, and the effect is has on some of us.

Only watch this if you want to fall into helpless despair at the fate of the world/society

This is not a comedy; it is a tragedy. It is a painful movie to watch but well performed and applicable to any political period that reveals the ugly truth of people who love money and want power (eg. Scrooge by Dickens). This movie is worth watching to better understand people who really really really love money. If you are looking for comedy look elsewhere.
The characters at dinner who have no problem killing animals for fun and nature for profit, who freely admit they love money, and who have have no respect for humanity or nature will not be disturbed or influenced by Beatriz before, during and after dinner. She simply doesn't matter to them. Beatriz is tolerated and underestimated. At one point in the dinner Beatriz explains that healing takes time and patience, but who will heal Beatriz?
Unfortunately, this movie gives Beatriz only two violent choices at the end, forgetting a middle way of positive determination and healing. In my opinion this movie adds to the media inspired hopelessness of this era. The serious cruelty Beatriz discovers during this evening destroys her, but this nihilistic ending disrespects her strength and character. In my opinion Beatriz, would have rejected both violent choices at the end of the movie.
ALTERNATE ENDING: Beatriz revises her client list, keeps working at the health centre, and finds healing in part by the "daughter" showing up at the clinic and they stay friends for life.
