Disjointed trite scenes. Never really came together. Disappointed....especially after waiting so long to get. Sad commentary on quality of films we have today.

Dull as dishwater coming-of-age chick flick.

Had a feel like Napoleon Dynamite. Excellent film score, it has picture perfect cinematography. The Blue-Ray was vivid (I was able to read the hand-writing on the yellow paper written by the mother near the end of the movie when I paused it). The cast is very likable and you get drawn into their world. Watched it twice so far. Only problem is the language which is rather rough for this type of movie and sort of kills it for me.

Guess I am getting older. Teen Age Angst has become typical and predictable - verging on boring. Laurie Metcalf was perfectly wonderful as 'The Mother.' Dad was gentle and kind trying to keep peace between the two females he loves most in the world.

meh. not as good as I expected. Typical disgruntled teen.

Much deserved nominations for the biggies: Best Picture, Best Director and Best Original Screenplay for Gerwig, Best Actress for Ronan (Atonement 2007, Brooklyn 2015) , and Best Actress in a Supporting Role for Metcalf in the Academy Awards held a couple of months ago. If you have followed Gerwig’s films, this could be the prequel to her 2013 “Frances Ha” which was about the challenges of a single 27 year old from Sacramento trying to make it as a dancer in NYC. Though born and graduated from an all-girl Catholic school in Sacramento before moving to NY for college, Gerwig is 34 now and lucky to have found Ronan (age 23) to play teenager “Lady Bird.” (Reference “Early Life” in “Summary” from Wikipedia.) A must watch for teens and their parents, especially for those living in smaller metropolitan area.

I agree with Miller 1114: Not sure what all the “hoopla” is about this film. It’s pretty ordinary. I guess if you’d like watching teenagers have sex and argue with their mothers, youwill really enjoy this film. I’m just glad I didn’tpay Money to go see it!

I really don't understand what the hoopla was all about. I would give it a C minus. I would give it less if Metcalf didn't give such an outstanding performance.

Fairly good acting, but I don't think it was Ronan's best. (My favourite role of hers was in Hanna, with How I Live Now being a close second.) Laurie Metcalf was quite good, though. But I don't think the film was quite as good as critics were saying.

I admit, I was expecting a bit more from this highly touted film, but there are several singular comic moments, and dramatically effective ones too. Lady Bird gets an A for honesty. Both the character and the film. Greta Gerwig admits Lady Bird isn't entirely autobiographical, but it's clear that she puts a lot of herself into this movie. Lady Bird's relationship with her mother is the essential love (and hate) story of the film, but I actually appreciated Saoirse Ronin's friendships with her girlfriend and 2 boyfriends even more. Worth the patience, imho.

She has an older brother, a landscape architect, and sister, a manager at the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. She has German, Irish, and English ancestry, and was raised a Unitarian Universalist. She attended St. Francis High School, an all-girls Catholic school in Sacramento. She has described herself as having been "an intense child." Many inquiring and humorous quotes have been posted in IMDb. Many thanks to the contributors. The first quote listed in the site hits the spot on the relationship between many teens and their parents (added three lines* for full context):
Lady Bird: I wish that you liked me.*
Marion: Of course I love you.*
Lady Bird: But do you like me?*
(Conversation continued as the first quote in IMDb page)
Marion: I want you to be the very best version of yourself that you can be.
Lady Bird: What if this is the best version?
