Loved this book. Could not stop listening to it. I enjoy the narrator. His voice is very dynamic.
His southern drawl…
Loved watching the narrator in Houston Nights. I always picture Mathew McConaughey as Jake Brigance just like in the movie a time to kill.

Not my favorite Grisham novel. It moved pretty slowly.

BOOOOOOOOORRRRRRING!!!! YAWN...... It was so slow moving that in the middle of the book, I just skipped ahead to the last 40 pages. I was also motivated by the due date and unable to renew. I owe too much $ in late fees already.

A TIME FOR MERCY is the third book in the series that began with John Grisham's wonderful A TIME TO KILL. I enjoyed this third series about lawyer Jake (played by Matjew McConoghey in the movie version of A TIME TO KILL, as he takes on a new case for a 16 year old accused of capital murder. All the same characters appear and the tension makes this a real page turner.

I am dinging it one star because the two cases that Jake is working on are never cleanly or firmly resolved in this book. The ending was sudden and took me by surprise.

A story of how the tragic events of domestic violence, alcoholism, sexual abuse, and murder affects a family, a police force, and a town. Grisham did a good job of weaving all the story lines together but I agree with the criticism that the middle dragged and if cut would have made a tenser story throughout.

I seemed to have enjoyed this story more than some other reviewers. I enjoy the background on characters and following the repeat characters that we know from previous books. Listened to this one on playaway and enjoyed the narrator's voice. That makes a big difference for me when I am listening to books. This one does not have a neat "tie everything up in a bow" ending. Don't think I am ruining things since many other reviewers mention this as well. I didn't mind this because life is rarely neat and tidy.

Better than some of his other recent books, which have been really awful. Starts out well; bogs down in the middle with too much extraneous storyline. The court room drama towards the end is good, but then a disappointing conclusion, or a conclusion in anticipation of another story. If there is another story, Grisham should take his time and editing to create a sequel to what was his first dynamic book in "A time to kill". Otherwise, it is will a "time to retire". Note too, the use of cell phones in the 1990's?

Would give this book 3 stars. Was a great book until the ending.
