Any documentary made by Ken Burns is excellent. This Hemingway film advertises separating the man from the myth. Although the facts of Hemingway's life were sometime tragic, I ended up liking the man less than before I watched. Many individuals have difficult home lives but do not turn around and abuse those around them. Early in his life Hemingway was an alcoholic, angry man. A possible excuse for his later bad behavior may have been post concussion syndrome, given his many significant head injuries. I agreed with one author who was interviewed who stated that if only one book by Hemingway could be saved it would be "The Old Man and the Sea" which does not have the macho posturing. I still do not understand why Hemingway is so revered as a literary giant. Kristi & Abby Tabby

Excellent program by (who else?) Ken Burns. Thought I knew some about EH, but this in-depth look at the iconic writer's lives (and wives!) and works delivers new insights. Wonderful show.
