"The Hunting Wives share more than target practice, martinis, and bad behavior in this novel of obsession, seduction, and murder. Sophie O'Neill left behind an envy-inspiring career and the stressful, competitive life of big-city Chicago to settle down with her husband and young son in a small Texas town. It seems like the perfect life with a beautiful home in an idyllic rural community. But Sophie soon realizes that life is now too quiet, and she's feeling bored and restless. Then she meets Margot Banks, an alluring socialite who is part of an elite clique secretly known as the Hunting Wives. Sophie is completely drawn to Margot and swept into her mysterious world of late-night target practice and dangerous partying. As Sophie's curiosity gives way to full-blown obsession, she slips further away from the safety of her family and deeper into this nest of vipers. When the body of a teenage girl is discovered in the woods where the Hunting Wives meet, Sophie finds herself in the middle of a murder investigation and her life spirals out of control"-- Provided by publisher.

The Hunting Wives follows a group of rich women in small town Texas who love to shoot guns and drink. There is a murder mystery in the book, but nothing happens until you're 200 pages into the book. The beginning held my attention, but the rest of the story was quite dry and uneventful. If you're new to the domestic thriller genre, then this might be up your alley. I don't recommend it to anyone who has even just a few thrillers under their belt.

We are never too old to remember that making bad friend choices can lead to disaster. Sophie O'Neill thought that in Mapleton, Texas she could be safe from the urban issues of a Chicago-size town. That she would be happy with her husband and son and her career as a lifestyle blogger/instagrammer would flourish. Then she started seeing posts by Margot Banks. Margot became her obsession. Soon she was joining Margot and company at the lake for shooting skeet. Sounds harmless enough, but this little group of suburban hunters is also on the prowl for a conquest. They suck Sophie in and soon she is witnessing underage drinking and cougars in action. Then there is a murder. The situation goes to hell in a handbasket and Sophie's life is in a tailspin. Can she correct her downward trajectory without metaphorically shooting herself in the foot? You will have to read her story and find out for yourself. This is both a mystery and a thriller as Sophie seeks to discover who is behind the murder while trying to stay alive and out of jail.
