In an environmental overview of the proposed Murphy Creek development conducted by B.C. Hydro biologists in 1979, it wasidentified that the sport fishery along the Columbia River maywell be the most important environmental resource componentwithin the project area. During Stage II of the evaluationprocess, B.C. Hydro retained a team of consultants to conductdetailed environmental and socio-economic studies leading to anassessment of the impacts of hydroelectric development on theColumbia River in the vicinity of Murphy Creek. R.L. & L.Environmental Services Ltd. was responsible for undertaking the"fisheries and aquatic habitat" component of these studies. Thisdocument presents and discusses the results of studies conductedin 1980 and 1981. An assessment of the probable impacts of thedevelopment and the potential mitigation options, based onavailable information, is also provided.
