The Hecate Strait benthic fauna study was carried out as part of an overallresearch project aimed at examining multi-species fishery productivity in thearea. Hecate Strait is an important groundfish and pelagic fishing area, andcontains spawning and nursery grounds for various commercial species. Thecurrent study examined the benthic fauna in conjunction with fish trawlsurveys carried out to collect groundfish for analysis of food content in thestomachs, while the benthic study examined the species composition of thesediment in the areas where the groundfish were sampled. In this report, detailed taxonomic identifications of the benthic grab samples, statisticalanalyses of the data obtained, and interpretations of the results in relation to the overall project are presented.
