Hydroacoustic and trawl surveys of herring were made in northern HecateStrait Dixon Entrance, Chatham Sound and adjacent inshore waters ofnorthern British Columbia. Measurements were made to determinethe herring distribution. Factors affecting hydroacoustic abundance estimates were examined, including diurnal changes in depth and spatialdistribution, with biological samples for size, age and maturity also collected. Incidental species and oceanographic data were also recorded.
