On October 10, 1985, an agreement was signed initiating the Fraser River Estuary Management Program, with a Standing Committee on the Fraser River Estuary Water Quality Plan established in 1986. The Standing Committee is responsible for developing a status report on a regular basis, assessing environmental data, and identifying current and potential water quality issues and problems in the estuary. This report presents the status of water quality in the estuary, the findings of the working group in prioritizing water quality issues, abstracts of 25 papers with questions which were presented in a scientific and technical workshop, and the conclusions of the Standing Committee based on information presented at the workshop, results of other current monitoring and research, and input from Standing Committee members.
