Anomalous growths on the parabranchial bodies of Atlantic cod and Pacific cod were first reported in 1929. This report chronicles the varied nomenclature of parabranchial lesions in Pacific and Atlantic cod; investigates lesion incidence with respect to sampling method, length interval, sex, area, season, year, and cod abundance; investigates lesion effects with respect to maturity, growth, and mortality rate; and reviews results of other investigations.
