Siting Culture Operations for the Pacific Oyster Crassostrea GigasMicroform - 1988
Choosing a site for Pacific oyster culture depends on economic suitability, site acquisition, operating and marketing, and habitat suitability. A model was constructed to evaluate culture sites, patterned after procedures used by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to evaluate habitat requirements for terrestrial and aquatic species. Methods and results from recent field-testing of the model are included in this report, as well as a detailed discussion of the economic and biological factors influencing the choice of a site.
