Examines the rationale for maintaining the seventeen small school districts (where enrolment is less than 1200 students per district) in British Columbia and discusses problems and issues unique to this portion of the province's educational system. Discusses responsiveness to local community needs, a stronger support system from government and the educational system to ensure the continuance of small school districts, the establishment of a small school district office within the Ministry to facilitate the districts' operations and to represent their interests and viewpoints, and the setting up of a system to share information and resources among small school districts. Discusses funding requirements.
