Fluoride in Ambient Air, Vegetation, and Wildlife Near An Aluminum Smelter in Kitimat, B.C., 1977-1986Microform - 1987
The Alcan Kitimat smelter produces approximately 270,000 tonnes of aluminum annually and is among the largest aluminum producing facilities in the world. Fluoridation and sulfation plates were operated at various sites throughout the Kitimat Valley from 1976-85 to evaluate ambient levels of fluoride and sulfur dioxide emissions from the smelter. This report is an analysis of the plate data with recommendations for the on-going ambient air monitoring program. A considerable amount of research was conducted on the effects of the emissions on the forest and wildlife of the Kitimat Valley. That research is also summarized.
