The British Columbia government has asked the provincial ombudsman to assume a limited advocacy role for children. To hear the views of children and youth on issues related to such advocacy, the ombudsman and staff held consultations throughout the province with hundreds of young people and their advocates. This discussion paper highlights and discusses those views on the topics of children's rights, respect for the young, adult attitudes, information access, the meaning of advocacy, involvement in service sector decisionmaking, and support from the education and social service systems.
