Report of the Standing Industry Advisory Group on Blood Issues
Final ReportMicroform - 1996
In response to public concerns about the past, present, and future safety of the province's blood supply, the British Columbia Ministry of Health formed an advisory group to develop policies and recommend appropriate and timely actions to address blood-related issues. This report summarises the group's deliberations and findings, with specific recommendations for actions to be taken by the Ministry and/or health care agencies of the province. The group's activities included reviewing literature and hearing of expert presentations. Issues examined include record keeping for retrospective tracking of recipients of blood and blood products; provision of information to transfusion recipients; and recipient notification regarding hepatitis C virus, human immunodeficiency virus, and Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease. The appendix includes questions and answers regarding blood-transmitted diseases.
