From award-winning comedian, writer, producer, and actress Amy Schumer comes "The Girl with the Lower Back Tattoo, "a thoughtful, honest, and hysterical collection of "(very)" personal essays. Never one to shy away from the uproarious, challenging, and remarkable moments that make up life, this exceptionally candid book will have readers wincing with recognition, nodding their head in solidarity, and laughing out loud. Written with Amy s signature candor, she reflects on her often raucous childhood antics, her hard won and incomparable rise to comedic stardom, and the courage it takes to approach the world with astounding honesty every single day. Surely the most anticipated collection of the year, Amy shines bright as a friend, daughter, and sister, unforgettable comedian, and most notably, a masterful (and always entertaining) storyteller."

Funny and insightful, I didn't want the audiobook to end.

This funny and thought-provoking autobiography is made even more enjoyable when listened to in audiobook form. Amy Schumer share the bright spots, challenges, and interesting encounters that form the stuff of her life. I was especially amused by her many lists throughout the book. Hearing Amy read the book, complete with her comedic timing, set the tone in a way I don’t think would have been achieved in my own reading. This book shares Amy’s experiences with disability and advocacy, less-than-legal pastimes, relationships (both familial and romantic), and more. Her voice brought real, raw emotion to her stories. For those a bit wary of biographies and non-fiction in general, this is a great gateway book.

I was neutral re the author when I got this from the library.

It’s just ok.

Just as I’m sorta liking the book, she feels the desperate need to be “edgy” and has to refer to a woman as a C, refer to her own V, make a dick or anal sex joke, or tell stories (14 yo boy humor) about watery poo mishaps. How is it that I’ve lived close to 60 years and haven’t witnessed one of these events, yet she’s closely involved with 3 during her teenage years?

Miscellaneous thoughts/comments:
Name dropping. Can’t just go out twerking with a friend. Has to name drop.

A chapter about her stuffed animals?

Chapters on her old a Diary/Journal entries?

Samantha Morton dancing in Jesus’ Son IS fantastic.

Joseph Pilates worked with wounded soldiers in WW I (not WW II). No one proof read this?

She does a good job reading it but I can't relate to the content. I think it's a generational thing:).

I admire Amy Schumer's courage and integrity in her work to reduce violence, domestic abuse, date rape, and grey-area sexual assault which is sadly too common. She is disarmingly vulnerable in describing her own real-life experience with date rape, emotional abuse, shop-lifting, and trying to win approval as a young woman. Her stories are interesting and engaging, especially for a millennial audience. Best for those already numb to such frequent use of words "fuck," "cunt," "ass," and other crass language which used to have some shock value. I got a bit weary of listening to her descriptions of "bad-ass" whatever, which seems to be standard expected language for those born after 1980. If this annoys you, pick another author/speaker/stand-up comedian.

The EXTREME shocking honesty (narcissism?) and over-sharing is interesting. She literally reads aloud from her personal journals omitting NO details of sex acts or explicit description of her lovers' and family's psychiatric quirks. I wonder if she has their permission to kiss and tell all? Amy can be funny, but mostly is just interesting to listen to her intimate life stories.

Although Amy's humor can be vulgar at times, I love how strong and courageous she is. She's willing to put it all on the line and believe in herself along the way. This was another audiobook I grabbed for our San Francisco trip (listening to it on the way home and finishing it later in the week) and it was great that she also was the one who narrates it. I didn't know anything about the book (other than I enjoy Amy as a comedian and actress), and thought it would be funny. She definitely delivered, but the book also hit on some pretty serious topics as well (including gun violence, rape, domestic violence, etc). I appreciate that she doesn't shy away from the "ugly" parts of her story and owns it all. I would give it a 9 out of 10.

I love Amy Schumer! Like any true genius, she is humble and self deprecating, but she is also tough and takes no shit from anyone! Also, she is a fellow introvert, and she understands how we need to be alone for a lot of the time!

I am a big fan of listening to the memoirs or comedians read by the comedians themselves. Schumer did not disappoint. It alternates chapters between funny stories you would expect to hear at one of her shows, and a glimpse into her life that is more honest and revealing than I was expecting. My heart really went out to her and everything she's been through. Fans of Schumer should take a listen.
