Erle Stanley Gardner was extremely prolific. In addition to other works, he wrote 82 Perry Mason novels, dictating at least one, but usually two, every year. By his own admission, he was not a great stylist, but he knew how to plot, and, hence, to entertain. This book is the fifth novel in the Perry Mason series, and the seventh that I have read. What a plot! Erle Stanley Gardner is the master! His plots are utterly fascinating and keep my mind in overdrive. I can never figure out how the story is going to end. Gardner gets the law right most of the time, but Mason is really as much a detective as he is a lawyer, so you have to suspend your disbelief sometimes. (I practiced law for 30 years and never met a lawyer like Perry Mason!) I still intend to read the entire Perry Mason series in the order that they were published. I have found a treasure hidden in plain sight!
