Though the sensational title is a bit of a stretch the author reports that an estimated 50 to 75 serial killers are operating in the US at any time, of which seven or eight may be women this study provides an interesting addition to an area where criminologists have historically focused on men. Drawing on literature reviews and lengthy interviews with seven murderers, Schurman-Kauflin (a "profiler" who works with police training academies) offers an overview of theories about why people kill as well as the family and behavior patterns that may set the serial killer apart. She also provides a general profile of women who kill like male murderers, they come from abusive homes and have little or no empathy for others and some of the factors that affect them differently from men.
