A Phase 0 Review of Elasmobranch Biology, Fisheries, Assessment and ManagementMicroform - 2001
This report is a preliminary study intended to address questions raised by fishery managers and that will form the basis for subsequent research & management actions to develop elasmobranch fisheries in British Columbia. The study addresses the following: the biology & life history of elasmobranchs; the biology and productivity of skates & sharks caught in British Columbia waters and/or other jurisdictions; the biomass & stock size structure of British Columbia skates & sharks and how this relates to historical stock conditions; appropriate harvest levels, given the biology & status of skates & sharks; and by-catch & associated mortalities of skates & sharks in other fisheries. The final section makes recommendations regarding elasmobranch research & fishery management.
