Life History of Pacific Sardine and A Suggested Framework for Determining A B.C. Catch QuotaMicroform - 1999
This report begins with a review of the life history of the Pacific sardine, with information on biomass, spawning, seasonal migration, and summer distribution. It then presents an overview of the sardine fishery on the west coast, contrasting the catch composition between the British Columbia and United States fisheries. Finally, stock assessment options are discussed, with reference to practices in the US. Two options are considered, one based on a pre-season British Columbia biomass estimate and the other on an in-season biomass estimate.
