A highlight in Vincente Minnelli and Judy Garland's career, and a treat for classic movie fans. The music is all great, the story is endearing, oftentimes funny, and Judy is at her peak, career-wise. Also, Judy's performance with Margaret O'Brien singing Martin and Blaine's "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" is poignant. A prime example of the great, classic American musical.
A heartwarming musical comedy from the golden age of Hollywood, "Meet Me In St. Louis" follows a year in the life of a family who live in-where else?-St. Louis. They're all looking forward to seeing the World's Fair come to St. Louis--until Dad announces they're going to be moving to New York before the Fair can open.
It's a fun filled slice of turn-of-the century Americana, particularly the Halloween scene and the Christmas gala. My own personal favorite is "The Trolley Song", but Judy Garland's beautiful, mournful "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" runs a close second in a movie full of romance, comedy, and glorious Technicolor.
Age has not been kind to this film. It feels old-fashioned, and not in the good way.
A real treat, nice to see again!
Did not know that one of the most famous Christmas songs is from this musical.
Nostalgic, sentimental. One of my favourites.
This film always brings me to tears. So romantic, so classic...not to mention Judy Garland has the voice of angel!
One of my favourite musicals of all time. A must see!!
