"Touchy Subjects" is about things that make people wince: taboos, controversies, secrets, and lies. Many of these stories are about the spectrum of constrained, convoluted feelings that run from awkwardness through embarrassment to shame.

I absolutely love Emma Donoghue. Her ability to articulate the complexities of the human condition with such clarity and compassion is what makes reading her works such a treasure.

I appreciate the fresh perspective this author takes on many already-familiar but not oft talked-about subjects (thus, the title of the collection) and the way we are introduced to them and leave them. It is a dance, of sorts, and I really appreciated the unvarnished look at them. It all seemed very plausible, real, and yet entertaining in their twists and turns. Good summer read, but not one I will pick up again.
